January Skater of the Month: Sour Cherry
1. What attracted you to the sport of Roller Derby?
Roller skates and strong women.
2. How did you come up with your derby name?
My bitter attitude and my first name sorta went well together. 3. How would you describe yourself in 3 words? Kick ass granny. 4. Who is your nemesis on the track? Its a tough question. So many amazing skaters I have had privileged to have skated with and many whom have since retired. But consistently because I do skate with her regularly would be Dragstrip Dolly. 5. Do you have any pre-game rituals? The only one that really matters is... getting on game face and meditation. 6. If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would play you in the lead role? Michelle Rodriguez if she ate burgers for a couple months (like Renee Zelwiger in Bridget Jones). 7. If you could have any super power what would if be? To see the future. I probably would have made better choices and started derby 5 years earlier. 8. What is your spirit animal? If a bear and wolverine mated I would be the prodigal daughter. 9. How has Roller Derby Saved your soul? It wasn't my soul I was worried about. 10. What do you do when you are not playing Roller Derby?
Coach Jr derby, work and love.
11. Who is your Derby Hero/Role Model? Anne Calvello, Joanie Weston, Judy Arnold and Skinny Minnie of course. I grew up watching them.
12. Why did you start to play Roller Derby and what keeps you going? I started playing because it was a sport revival for women at a time when all women could just do it. 10 yrs later I still do it because despite the many changes in the sport it's still competitive and even more athletic. I have to constantly change with the sport to keep up and that makes me better from within. There was no leagues in Canada in 2005 so I started to make it possible for all of us.
